Contemporary art center to host DIFFA benefit
The NEO Contemporaries and the North East Ohio Chapter of DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation for AIDS) are asking you to show you really care by bidding on a unique Valentine-inspired creation at their February 12 "Heart Day's Night" art auction and party that benefits AIDS service organizations and educational efforts in Northeast Ohio.
Held at the Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art (CCCA), who will also share in the night's proceeds, the evening will feature tempting hors d'oeuvres, hot music, naughty desserts and captivating art. "The NEOS have always had an annual bash for the Friday night singles crowd," explains Diane Rooney, president of NEO Contemporaries, "and we're excited about
combining that event with an art auction as
well as broadening our audience for this supremely important cause.
The NEO Contemporaries, an art appreciation and education group at CCCA, has teamed up with DIFFA to make this night a success for both groups. Says DIFFA chair Sande Jablow, "The money DIFFA will raise at this event stays right here in Cleveland and directly helps over 1,000 AIDS patients through funding of community organizations such as the Living Room, the Health Issues Taskforce, the Free Clinic and Stopping AIDS is My Mission.
Over 75 hand-made wearable, give-able, hang-able and collectible Valentine-inspired objects in media such as jewelry, paper, fabric, furnishings and accessories, from fine art to high kitsch, utilitarian to unbelievable to edible, will be offered in a
silent auction. Artists, designers and other creative individuals who are donating their time and artwork include Phyllis Seltzer, George Kocar and Don Harvey.
Entertainment all night includes a live DJ spinning hot dance tunes and a "Romantic Raffle." Tickets for "A Heart Day's Night" are $25 a person in advance, $30 at the door, and include catered appetizers, two cocktails, a bid number and the chance to meet some expected 500 partygoers. The festivities begin at 8:00 p.m. and the CCCA recommends bringing a carload of friends as there is a $4 per car parking charge in the Cleveland Play House parking lot.
For more information on "A Heart Day's Night" or to purchase tickets, please contact the Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art at 421-8671.
